Mommy? Tell Me About the Time You Slept With ALL Your Roommates...

Well Helloooooo my Darling Friend!  It’s been awhile now hasn’t it?  I’ve certainly missed your company and I know you’ve missed me too.

Traveling from lipstick counter to lipstick counter has not been as exciting as I thought it would be... What??  Caffe not excited about lipstick shopping?...

Well my Dear, I adore the lipsticks, it was the bad Mommy behaviors all around me that distracted me so!  Come make yourself comfy and let me fill your cup, I think it’s been too long since my last Mommy Lesson...
I don’t know what it is... I just can’t seem to put my finger on it.  Hmmm... bad decisions, neglecting to be consistent, or maybe it’s just a lack of education.  I’ve been searching high and low just like my quest for unleaded lipsticks for a reason as to why parenting has become... ummm... well... parenting just sucks nowadays!  There, I said it and I’ll probably get hate mail on my first day back!
What happened to the days that what Mommy says goes?  Where has the strength of saying, “NO!” gone?  Why are others so quick to judge a Mommy who is actually disciplining her child?  Who are all these so called child rearing “experts” and if they are an "expert", shouldn’t they have at least ONE child?  Don’t get me started on these "experts" who have never experienced waking up in the middle of the night to a crying baby to change a poopy diaper, and then change it again because in the middle of the change, more poop came out of baby’s behind and your eyes are bleary because you’ve been doing this every 2 hours for the last month!
Hmmmph... my lipstick is starting to smudge and I’m going down the wrong path as I often do!  Now Darling, I’ve had a bit much caffeine and I’m so irritated with the ridiculous behaviors that almost resembles... do I dare say it?  Well of course I’ll say it...
Parenting today resembles reality TV shows!
Think about it, one of the very first popular reality show that came on TV was... come on, you know the answer... The Real World.  Believe it or not, TRW has been on TV for 28... twenty-eight, TWENTY-EIGHT seasons!
We can say that reality shows are make believe and scripted all we want, but after 28 seasons (or about 20 years) of “reality” becoming less and less so, and it’s now more about how outrageous the show can be, does outrageous seem normal to most now?  It’s a thought, and this just might be the answer I was looking for.  Can the bad parenting of today be connected to the “reality” of TV shows that have taken away the standards of what it means to be a moral and ethical person?
I think I should ponder this question on another shopping spree...

Well off you go, I'm headed to the nearest lipstick counter to smooth my irritation with a little color as this conversation has frazzled me so!  Until I get back from my next purchase... Ta Ta my Dear Friend!

  2. I like some reality t.v. like Project Runway and Top Chef. That's it. I don't know about the connection between reality t.v. and parenting ... it could just be that our society has put way too much focus on children's "needs" and their "self esteem." We are a child-centered world now. Children have way too much control and power. Our society really needs to re-think this. I was a preschool teacher for many years and now I work in an elementary school. The behavior I have observed by many is appalling.

    1. Hello Michael A Darling,
Yes, I hear what you are saying about kids having to much control... but what I'm getting at with my post is that when you see bad morals on a constant basis, are people (parents) more forgiving of behavior that really shouldn't be acceptable? Always a pleasure when you share your views... xoxo

    1. Good for you Darling! I'm not saying TV is horrible, I'm just saying a line needs to be drawn... where the line is drawn is up to each individual family... xoxo

  4. Sorry Caffe but you know me and my reality TV gotta have it...yes I do and I make no apologies for it...duh we know it's scripted if you think that it's not then people need to wake the f up. The only ones that perhaps are not are the ones were they have to do actual work for a prize {top chef project runaway yadda yadda yadda}. I discipline but I always get the evil eye when I try to do it my way. People need to mind their own business especially people who don't/and or plan to never have kids. Zip the lip

    1. No need to apologize Darling, you're a FABulous Mommy! There is nothing wrong with watching what is entertaining for YOU. It's those that accept the outrageous as normal who concern me and I've noticed quite a few who are a "bit out there"... Hugs my Dear Friend and thank you for sharing your views... xoxo

  6. I think we all know that what we watch, I mean what some are watching, has nothing to do with reality. And I do think that parenting has gone the way of bad television. I think parents are afraid of their children.

  7. I remember watching season 1 of The Real World in NY and thought, "What a bunch of hooey"

Boy was I wrong. Some of the parents today make me want to throw up in their hats. And they are sooooo quick to judge parents like me because I say no...go figure

    Luv ya

  8. When mom says no, that's exactly what it should mean. And children need to abide by it. A parent has to know when to be an authority figure and not just a friend.
